Interstate Screw Corporation was founded in February 1956 by Albert and Ronald Seiden in Miami, Florida, and incorporated shortly thereafter in November 1956. Albert was in the Venetian blind business and Ronald was fresh out of college. Contrary to the popular and amusing long-standing story told by Ronald Seiden, Albert did not win the company in a poker game. Albert remained with the company for many years, and Ronald formally became president in 1962. (If you'd like to see what happened in 1956, we've compiled a list.) Interstate acquired Atlas Bolt & Nut Company from the Jim Walters Corporation in the late 1970s and assimilated them into our existing company at our second location at 6760 NW 37th Avenue in Miami. We expanded several times by buying adjoining buildings and knocking out the walls between them -- eventually having three adjoining warehouses. But soon even that would not be big enough. In the early 1980s, we acquired Allied Screw of Dixie from Sterling Bolt of Texas, Allied's parent company. Almost simultaneously with that acquisition, we moved into our present location in Hialeah which would afford us enough space for our ongoing operations. Our current location in Hialeah is our third location since we were founded. In 1989, Eric, Ronald's son and Albert's grandson began working full-time with Interstate. Under his leadership, Interstate finally entered the computer age with the introduction of the FASPAC software package in late 1995. He took Interstate from a screw, nut, and bolt only enterprise to a full range supplier with many related ancillary products. Interstate had a short-lived branch in Fort Lauderdale in the late 1990s, but when the EPA declared a neighboring property a superfund site, everyone on the block was ordered to leave on very short notice. We were unable to find a suitable place for relocation in such a short time, and were forced to bring the entire company back to Hialeah. We added additional delivery vehicles and continue to service the Broward market from our office here so effectively that many customers never even realized we moved. We are now investigating an expansion of our current building because we're once again out of space despite having 50,000 square feet of space. It's amazing how much room screws take up. For three generations this family-owned and operated business continues to deliver its many products around the globe -- quality products at competitive prices -- with customers in almost all of the fifty (50) states, North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
